We offer a variety of thought-provoking workshops and discussion programs that challenge adults to move beyond childhood and literalism to a mature view of the Bible’s message for us.

These short term discussion groups, which follow Coffee Hour on Sunday Mornings, are led by a layperson or clergy. Topics have ranged from Questions of Faith to Religion in Art, and often are based on a video discussion series.

The History & Identity of the United Church of Christ – taught by Dr. William Field – September 18th and 25th and October 2nd at 11:30am in the Church Office. William will be leading the group through the foundations of our denomination’s fascinating history, and its wellsprings of theology and self-understanding. Join him for this journey of faith. Each participant will receive the book History and Program of the UCC.
Allaire Picnic & Bike Ride to Manasquan Saturday, September 24th at 3pm
Children and adults are welcome to come to a fun outing at Allaire State Park with a ride down the easy 5 mile Edgar Felix Bike Trail to Manasquan. We’ll ride at 3:30pm and return for a simple picnic with shared food. Sign up in Fellowship Hall so that we know how many to expect.

Bible Study – 1st Letter of Peter – after church on Sundays Jan 8, 15 and 22
Alex Haines, seminarian from Princeton Theological, will be offering a three-part Bible study focusing on the 1st letter of Peter: its meaning, history, and vision. The group will meet at about 11:30am in the Parish Office. Grab a cup of coffee and join in the discussion and learning.
How do we know God? Tuesday evening Bible Study 7-8pm – January 24 – Feb. 14 in the church office. Rev. Rusty will be leading an evening Bible Study utilizing a Kergyma curriculum focusing on ways we know God in the bible and in our own prayer lives. Come for all four sessions or just one or two…The class will be for just one hour and will include study and prayer.
Singing the Unsung by John Bell – a Lenten study: Sundays after church beginning on Feb. 26th. This is a DVD resource that speaks of the meaning of music in worship and in our lives, and seeks the revitalization of worship for the 21st century. John Bell is the music director of the Iona Community in Scotland, which is a retreat and worship center in an ancient monastery built in the 7th century by St. Columba on the Scottish coast. Our Minister of Music, Susan Davies Muhler, will be leading this discussion.
Space For Grace – Lent – Our popular evening “Space 4 Grace” program will be held during Lent: at 7:30pm on Wednesday evenings: Feb. 29th to April 4th. These evening gatherings are a mix of worship and discussion, bible study and prayer, culminating in a gathering around the table to share Holy Communion.
Forgiveness, a film by Helen Whitney – after church on April 15, 22 and 29. This PBS video explores the act of forgiveness through a wide range of stories, from violent acts and personal betrayal to reconciliation within nations. In focusing on particular people and families torn apart by affliction, Forgiveness studies the inner struggles that come with this powerful vision. Classes will be led by Rev. Rusty and held in the church office.
