Committees

Many hands make light work.

Church Life
The Church Life Committee is responsible for planning social events such as Broadway trips, Progressive Dinners, and the annual Country Bazaar as well as advertising special events in the community and coordinating the Coffee Hours and Family Breakfasts.

The Good News Team, which is a part of Church Life, assists with greeting visitors and newer members, advertising and outreach in the community, and coordinating events like the “Dine with 7 or 9” dinners and the “Ministry Fair” that introduces people to the activities of the church.

Missions
The Missions Committee is responsible for our outreach into both the local and global community. The committee determines the direction of our church’s mission focus and raises funds to provide support for this mission activity. The main fund-raiser is a Turkey Dinner each Spring. The Missions Committee also sponsors a 25-mile Bike-A-Thon in the fall to raise money for Bridges and St. Mark’s Soup Kitchen.

Worship
The Worship Committee is responsible for the coordination of all worship service, including lay participation (deacons, ushers, greeters, readers), music, and special services. The Worship Committee works closely with the pastor to determine ways to keep the worship service both fresh and meaningful. Members are needed for “behind the scenes“ activities such as coordinating the acolytes, decorating the Sanctuary for Christmas, and soliciting lay participants and for active participation in the service, such as greeting, lay reading, dramatic presentations and children’s messages.

Christian Education
The Christian Education Committee is responsible for all education outside of the worship service. This includes Adult Education, Confirmation Class, Youth Group, and Church School. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the programs, teach Church School (permanent or substitute basis), work with the Youth Group, and coordinate or lead an adult Bible study or discussion group.

Building and Grounds
The Building and Grounds Committee is responsible for the maintenance of the property. Committee members coordinate repairs and maintenance with outside contractors as well as perform some of the necessary maintenance. Each spring, the committee sponsors an All Church Work Party, during which much of the annual upkeep is done by members of the congregation, followed by a luncheon.

Trustees
The Trustees are responsible for overseeing the church’s property, finances and contracts.  They develop the church’s budget, handle investments, and manage contracts, such as our insurance.

Pastoral Relations

This committee acts as mediators between the congregation and staff, for any issues or conflicts which arise.    They are not supervisory, but act to resolve conflicts and to improve communications.

Christian Care
The Christian Care Committee helps the church in three areas of ministry:

  • providing pastoral care for church members and friends;
  • fostering the inclusion and nurturing of new members; and
  • overseeing the area of spiritual formation and direction.
